Two weeks to go, people.

I have no idea why I'm struck with this sudden streak of altruism - but just to remind people that finals happen to be week-after-next? If you're completely convinced you're going to ace everything without needing to study quietly, can you at least refrain from turning into a caffeine-fueled dervish while some of us are attempting to finish their Flight research project?

Kitty and I tend to claim the sunroom downstairs as our own private lair around this time. If you don't mind putting up with the natural light, you are welcome to join the club.

As a plus, the windows make excellent make-shift equation boards, as long as you clean them up before leaving.

I've always had issues studying in groups, but thank you. Besides, all my stuff is here.

What _he_ said

I'm getting it in _ALL_ my senses, OK?

It's hard enough to think around here without spiking me with the giggly and the silly.

Well, you can always push back with sedate and calm, can't you?

I could, yes.

[identity profile] x-empath.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
But as I am led to believe it's completely unethical and wrong to alter someone else's emotions just because they're pushing against my own.

Do you have any _idea_ how disconcerting it is to be working on a profit-and-loss analysis and get a case of the giggles?

I'll survive. Hunker down, thicken my shields, and try to learn while shielding. Good practice, I suppose.

The measure of success or failure will be in my grades.

Manuel

Group studying would mean we were studying together. We just happen to be studying in the same room. The same quiet, giggle free, room.

But to each their own. I hear Silly Putty makes a decent make-shift earplug so long as you make sure not to get any too deep in the ear canal.

Wow, that's stupid. But the shielding's probably not a bad idea, I'd think. Kind of like if you're prone to sunburns, you can't turn off the sun so you either have to stay inside or wear sunblock, right? Only you CAN turn off the sun, figuratively, but they tell you it's the wrong thing to do. Interesting.

No wonder most empaths are crazy.

[identity profile] x-forge.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
Ever tried to get an earplug out of your left ear using your right hand?

[identity profile] x-foliate.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
Not, but through my extensive testing of right now, I have come to the conclusion that as long as your right elbow was pressed against your chest and your head turned to the right, you should be okay.

[identity profile] x-forge.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but can you touch your elbows behind your back?

Besides, a good 50% of my Flight final is sitting in the next room over and I have to keep going and taking feather samples.

It makes the deadheads nervous

[identity profile] x-empath.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
When psis go on and jack with their brains.

Even if it is, in a manner of speaking, self-defense.

If you're up for a demonstration sometime of why it's wrong, let me know.

Oh, believe me, it weirds me out when Mr. Dayspring does it, even politely. And from what I'm told, I have the psychic shielding of wet Kleenex.

Your empathic shielding is even worse.

[identity profile] x-empath.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
Just so you know.

Ask Danielle, she'll tell you.

Manuel

[identity profile] x-foliate.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
I... hm. I'm not sure.

It was just a suggestion. Hope you find some peace.

[identity profile] x-crowdofone.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
Just a suggestion, but, y'know, considering how many hormonal teenage guys are running around the house, you might not want to try touching your elbows behind your back in public or while wearing snug shirts. I'm sure the docs don't need to field a sudden rash of head injuries from people bumping into things. :)

[identity profile] x-forge.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
DAMMIT, MADROX!

[identity profile] x-foliate.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
Jamie!

I'll try to restrain myself until I find somewhere private.

[identity profile] x-crowdofone.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
Ten out of ten for the sneaky solicitation of the ogle opportunity, though, man. That was nice work.

[identity profile] x-crowdofone.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
And I'll try not to take that statement completely out of context. :)

[identity profile] x-foliate.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 09:20 am (UTC)(link)
JAMIE! :D

box party?

I'm beginning to think if I don't go in I will never finish my review for math...and this is about all I have to salvage my grade.

Re: Your empathic shielding is even worse.

[identity profile] x-mirage.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
CRAZY people!

makes me wonder sometimes, am I crazy or are they making me crazy. either way, it is not good.

and Forge has less shielding than a wet kleenex. worse when he's drugged and loopy.

Not a box party.

[identity profile] x-empath.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
Bring your homework up to my room. I can shield the both of us, for a time.

Manuel

Re: Not a box party.

[identity profile] x-mirage.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
thanks. I don't think I will ever understand this stuff.

[identity profile] x-foliate.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
I'm judging by the silence, Forge has died by humiliation by your hand, mister.

You have to go tell McCoy.

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
There's actually good reason to limit the active alteration of other people's emotional states or thoughts, Forge. That's why psis focus so much on getting shielding down.

[identity profile] x-forge.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. And I thought it was just because people are annoying.

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 11:06 am (UTC)(link)
Well, there is the whole 'going mad and losing track of what you yourself are feeling/thinking' if you're strong enough and completely without shields. Speaking as someone who had crappy shields and undeveloped telepathy for better than twenty years, it's not a particularly good way to live.

[identity profile] x-forge.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but you're insane. It's a chicken/egg scenario.

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, hah.

Seriously, you should ask the Professor about some of this stuff. Having been the beneficiary of one of his crash courses in psionic ethics, I can speak from personal experience that it's very interesting. For you it'd be an academic exercise, obviously - maybe a new context in which to frame your understanding of the science behind it all?

And now Moira's threatening to throw my laptop in the pool.

[identity profile] x-forge.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting. May look at it for next year's class load.

[identity profile] x-kitten.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Well darnit, now I'm curious, too. We could lock the door and do experiements. Although, it's entirely possible that then the boys' brains would explode from thinking about even without seeing it. I don't know. Risky business, this.

[identity profile] x-foliate.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
But! All in the name of science and research...

[identity profile] x-forge.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Forward science!

[identity profile] x-kitten.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
-g- Yes, exactly!

I've been told I give Psi's headaches. Something about the volume of my thoughts and emotions. Bonus though, they'd never lose me in a crowd. You know, what would be really interesting to know is if people thinking in a foreign language bothers the teeps. I mean, if you're an English teep and you're surrounded by Chinese people, can you understand what they're thinking?

[identity profile] x-jubilee.livejournal.com 2005-05-18 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Shh. I've got facts and dates and hypoto thingies coming out of my ears right now. I swear to whatever deity you prefer that if I don't pass all my exams I'm going to do something drastic...like, I don't know. Move to Guam or something. Are their yaks in Guam? I could become a Guamish yak farmer, and then blame it all on the teachers.
