Two weeks to go, people.

I have no idea why I'm struck with this sudden streak of altruism - but just to remind people that finals happen to be week-after-next? If you're completely convinced you're going to ace everything without needing to study quietly, can you at least refrain from turning into a caffeine-fueled dervish while some of us are attempting to finish their Flight research project?

Well, you can always push back with sedate and calm, can't you?

I could, yes.

But as I am led to believe it's completely unethical and wrong to alter someone else's emotions just because they're pushing against my own.

Do you have any _idea_ how disconcerting it is to be working on a profit-and-loss analysis and get a case of the giggles?

I'll survive. Hunker down, thicken my shields, and try to learn while shielding. Good practice, I suppose.

The measure of success or failure will be in my grades.

Wow, that's stupid. But the shielding's probably not a bad idea, I'd think. Kind of like if you're prone to sunburns, you can't turn off the sun so you either have to stay inside or wear sunblock, right? Only you CAN turn off the sun, figuratively, but they tell you it's the wrong thing to do. Interesting.

No wonder most empaths are crazy.

It makes the deadheads nervous

When psis go on and jack with their brains.

Even if it is, in a manner of speaking, self-defense.

If you're up for a demonstration sometime of why it's wrong, let me know.

Oh, believe me, it weirds me out when Mr. Dayspring does it, even politely. And from what I'm told, I have the psychic shielding of wet Kleenex.

Your empathic shielding is even worse.

Just so you know.

Ask Danielle, she'll tell you.

CRAZY people!

makes me wonder sometimes, am I crazy or are they making me crazy. either way, it is not good.

and Forge has less shielding than a wet kleenex. worse when he's drugged and loopy.

I've been told I give Psi's headaches. Something about the volume of my thoughts and emotions. Bonus though, they'd never lose me in a crowd. You know, what would be really interesting to know is if people thinking in a foreign language bothers the teeps. I mean, if you're an English teep and you're surrounded by Chinese people, can you understand what they're thinking?

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
There's actually good reason to limit the active alteration of other people's emotional states or thoughts, Forge. That's why psis focus so much on getting shielding down.

[identity profile] x-forge.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. And I thought it was just because people are annoying.

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 11:06 am (UTC)(link)
Well, there is the whole 'going mad and losing track of what you yourself are feeling/thinking' if you're strong enough and completely without shields. Speaking as someone who had crappy shields and undeveloped telepathy for better than twenty years, it's not a particularly good way to live.

[identity profile] x-forge.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but you're insane. It's a chicken/egg scenario.

[identity profile] x-cable.livejournal.com 2005-05-17 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, hah.

Seriously, you should ask the Professor about some of this stuff. Having been the beneficiary of one of his crash courses in psionic ethics, I can speak from personal experience that it's very interesting. For you it'd be an academic exercise, obviously - maybe a new context in which to frame your understanding of the science behind it all?

And now Moira's threatening to throw my laptop in the pool.

Interesting. May look at it for next year's class load.
